    Abstract: The Purpose of this research is to analyze the current reality in which Ecuador is living in terms of international trade with the European Union, the past, present and future of the commercial agreement of the Generalized System of Preference (GSP), and how it would affect the financial and commercial balances of Ecuador if Ecuador does not get to firm a long term agreement.
    This thesis identifies the many factors that have made Ecuador dependent on this agreement, the importance it has to the whole country, the economic impact it would generate on the market and the social scenarios it could make and how to avoid that.
    To understand this topic, it is divided and explained in detail the amounts that represent each product that Ecuador exports to the European Union without paying taxes, the influence it has in the market and the financial balance, the growth opportunity Ecuador has if they continue in a long term agreement benefits of this exoneration of tariffs. But the main intention of this study is to determine the viability of the general system of preference as a method of sustainable development for a long term for Ecuador.
