    Title: A Study of Bactericidal Activity, Stability, and Corrosion Effects of Glutaraldehyde
    戊二醛之滅菌性、穩定性及金屬腐蝕性之研究

    Abstract: Sonacide與Cidex 7兩種分別是酸性和鹼性戊二酸溶液,經35日重覆使 用,仍對綠膿桿菌(Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 14502),具有殺菌性,然而由第 15日開始會有滅菌不完全出現,真正具有完全滅菌的能力只能維持12天,此兩種 溶液的滅菌力並不因金屬鐵、鎳、、銅或碳鋼的存在而受影響。將母液或稀釋 一半的溶液,分別放備在下成37度不並不影響滅菌效果。幾種對抗生素具抗藥 性的綠膿桿菌,對Sonacide或Cidex 7均不具抗藥性。Sonacide和Cidex 7的最低有效 滅菌濃度分別是稀釋1/120興1/10。經過35天的重覆使用,Sonacide漸趨弱酸,而 Cidex 7趨向弱鹼,二者的酸鹼度變化均不大,但Cidex 7失去較多的戊二醛含量。 將鐵、鎳、銅及碳鋼釘分別浸泡在消毒液中,並不影響其戊二醛含量或酸鹼度 的變化。經過四個星期的浸泡,鐵釘在二種消毒液中均出現嚴重的侵蝕。銅釘 和鎳釘在Sonacide溶液中出現的侵蝕現象較在Cidex 7中為嚴重。利用原子吸收分 光光度測量,發現鐵與銅在Sonacide中的溶離度均較在Cidex 7中為高。二種滅菌 液對碳鋼釘均無侵蝕性。由Surgikos所製造的檢定Cidex 7有效性試劑,經測試, 並不能真正反應Cidex 7約有效滅菌性,對於Cidex 7可能引起的皮膚過敏,亦在 本研究中討論到。
    Sonacide and Cides 7, one acid and one alkaline glutaraldehydesolutions respectively, exhibited antimicrobial activity against Preudomonas aeruginosa. ACTT 14502 after daily reuse for 35 days. However,failure started to appear on the 15th day. Complete sterilization canonly be achieved within 12 days which was their effective use-lifein this study. Antimicrobial activity of these two solutions was notaffected by the presence of iron, nickle, copper and carbonsteel nails.Under the temperature of 25 C or 37 C, the disinfection ability ofboth mother and its 50 diluted solutions were not affected. Noneof the antibiotic resistant strains of P. aeruginosa were found tobe resistant to Sonacide or Cidex 7. The minimum effective concentration of Sonacide and Cidex 7 against the antibiotic resistant or nonresistant strains were 1/20 and 1/10 dilution, respectively. After reusefor 35 days the pH value of Sonacide was close to weak acid andthat of Cidex 7 turned to weak alkaline, but there were no great variation in pH value. Comparing the chemical stability, Cidex 7 lostmore of its glutaraldehyde concentration than Sonacide after 35 days'reuse. Immersion of iron, nickle, copper and carbonsteel nails in thedisinfectants did not affects either the glutaraldehyde contents or thepH. Serious corrosion was observed on the iron nails after four weeks'exposure to the disinfectants. Copper and nickle nails were highlycorrosive in Sonacide, but they were less likely to show corrossionin Cidex 7. More iron and copper are dissolved in Sonacide than theyare in Cidex 7 as detected by the atomic spectrophotometer. Littleor no corrosion were observed on carbonsteel nails exposed to Cidex7 or Sonacide. The Cidex 7 test kit designed by the Surgikos didnot reflect the efficacy of Cidex 7 antimicrobial activity. Possibleskin rash caused by Cidex 7 was discussed in this report.
