Strong correlation of the diffusion coefficient of small atoms and the crystallization temperature suggests that the crystallization of amorphous -Ni-Zr alloy (a-Ni-Zr) is controlled by the diffusion of the small constituent of the alloy rather by the contituent with large size. Different diffusion behavior of small atoms, Co and Cu and a large atom, Hf, in a-Ni-Zr indicates that the diffusion mechanisms of small and large atoms in amorphous Ni-Zr matrix are different. It is suggested that small atoms diffuse by interstitial -like (localized difect) mechanism, and large atoms diffuse by collective rearrangement of many atoms.
