本文擬就項退結教授在存在哲學方面的研究作一全盤的探討和審視。眾所周知，存在主義的思潮在六○年代的台灣社會曾經風行一時，當時項退結教授正從歐洲返回台灣，風雲際會，也躬逢這股浪潮，投身於存在思潮的研究。我們可以說，存在思潮的研究是項退結教授在台灣哲學學界的出發點，從這一方面的研究作起始，逐漸開展出他在中西哲學學術研究的生涯。本文共分四部分來探討：一、前言；二、六○年代的台灣社會與存在思潮；三、項退結教授對於存在思潮的研究特色；四、結論：項退結教授在存在哲學學術研究上的貢獻。
The paper tries to give a general review and investigation of Professor Thaddaeus Hang's contribution to the Existential Philosophy research. It is well known that the thoughts of Existential Philosophy was quite popular in Taiwan during 1960s. Professor Hang began his research on Existential Philosophy after he returned to Taiwan from Europe in 1962. He has made great contribution to the study of Existential Philosophy since then. The whole paper consists of four parts: 1) Foreword; 2) The thoughts of Existential Philosophy and the Taiwan Society in 1960s; 3) Characterization of Professor Hang's Existential Philosophy research; 4) Conclusion: Professor Hang's Contribution to the Existential Philosophy Studies in Taiwan.
