Abstract: News consumption is becoming more active among the young adults because of growing of social networking sites. This research examines the news consumption of Mongolian students using Facebook. Facebook is becoming one of the biggest social media network site in Mongolia. Young adults are using Facebook more actively so it is significant to understand how Mongolian students consume news through the Facebook platform. The major research questions include: 1. How and why do Mongolian students consume news through the Facebook? 2. What are their motives to share and leave comments on Facebook? 3. How does the news on Facebook affect their everyday life? Those research questions then were answered by gathering empirical data from focus group discussion (FGD). Participants of the Focus group discussion are chosen from the university located in Ulaanbaatar City of Mongolia. In this study, a total of 42 college students, aged from 18 to 24, participated and I divided them into 7 groups making it 6 college students per each group. This research aims to reveal the news consumption of Mongolian students using Facebook. The main findings reveal that Mongolian students using Facebook find news incidentally without intending to look for news on Facebook. Furthermore, social interaction and friendship issues are important for students who consume news through Facebook.
