To secure a sales advantage among multiple channels in the highly competitive retailing and wholesale distribution industry, firms are currently striving to determine a possible reformation in terms of their service models. In addition to operation adjustment of internal channels, retailers and distributors have begun to heavily emphasize payment methods to utilize the Taiwanese government’s deregulation of third-party payment laws and rapidly growing mobile payment market. They hope to overcome the obstacle of limited channels, achieve high operating performance, and create a new generation of channels. However, a sizeable gap remains in terms of how to provide flexible interfaces and efficient approaches integrating new payment methods (e.g., smart card) with the corresponding information systems of retailers. To overcome this challenge, this study conducted further research on the actual use of new payment models, including mobile payment. As well, through interviews, this study determined how a leading retailer responded and integrated the internal system with mobile payment tools. Finally, in order to prove the feasibility of the proposed framework, a prototype was developed. By describing the practical implementation and use of payment methods, this paper serves as a reference for future mobile payment designs.
