Sergei Prokofiev(1891-1953), is a great Russian composer who composed D Major Sonata (OP. 94) from 1942 to 1943. The sonata was originally written for flute, but with the recommendation and assistance from David Oistrakh (1908-1974), it was revised for violin and piano at 1944. In June of the same year, the revised sonata was performed in Moscow with a huge success and has become one of his two most famous violin sonatas by Sergei Prokofiev.
The thesis consist five chapters and adopt the Prokofiev’ s “D Major Sonata for Flute and Piano” published by International Music Company in 1958 to explore the structure analysis of this flute version and a further interpretation.
Chapter 1 is the introduction of study motivation, deriving objective, and research scope. Chapter 2 is devoted to illustrate the life of the composer and his creative background. Chapter 3 is an analysis of the flute sonata, which renders an in-depth analysis of the structure of the sonata so as to get a complete grasp of the composer’s idea. Chapter 4 is an interpretation. Chapter 5 is the conclusion of this research.
In terms of the various perspectives and the analysis of the structure, a very profound and deep understanding of the composer’s idea would be derived. In such a way, the musician who plays this sonata can better achieve the composer’s desired artistic style and conception. |
