    Abstract: One psychological attribute that had been frequently associated with sporting success by athletes, coaches and sport psychologist is mental toughness. This psychological skill is critical for achieving athletic success. Thus, the focus of the study is to determine if there is a difference in mental toughness level between elite and sub-elite athletes, male and female, team and individual sport or contact and non-contact sport. The participants were 133 Division I athletes from different teams in Chinese Culture University (PCCU). A three-way MANOVA was used to determine if there were any significant differences in gender, competition experience and sport types. The statistics significance was set at p .05. The result shows that there was a significant difference between male and female (p = .004). There was also was a significant interaction in positive effort (.037) between gender and competition experience. Significant difference in sport types was also observed.
