In 1977, with Hu, Lan Cheng and Zhu, His Ning's leading and enlightenment, a group of young intellectuals founded the ”San San Literary Periodical.” The collected papers were filled with traditional oriental intellectual's styles. Besides, various kinds of discourses from literature to social problems were all included. This publication was not only the land for literary creations but also the land for the elaboration of the theory of Hu, Lan Cheng-their spiritual mentor.Once the saying, ”Every one of the San San Literary Group has to be an oriental intellectual.” was brought up in the meeting of San San Literary Group, which intended to become a three-thousand-intellectual literary group. The reasons why all the members of this group in the 70's Taiwan have to be the oriental intellectuals, especially in such an occidentalizing society at that time, and the distinction between the intellectuals in the east and the west are going to be discussed in this article. Furthermore, a contending is found in the comparison between the definitions to the oriental intellectual in the San San Literary Periodical and the theories related to this topic in the west. This article is going to look deep into the conflict and try to find out what the two sides insisted on.
