Originated from Father's Face, Father's Requests was unique in Chang Wen-huan's literary works. It was the only work of Chang Wen-huan's written with the author's personal experience involved with life-wing campaign and life in Tokyo. The work reflected the conflicts of racial discrimination, Taiwanese traditions, and colonization during Japanese occupied period. The anxiety and identification confusion of Taiwanese intellectuals were characterized in this work. In addition, it portrayed both their situations under the colonial rule and their thoughts confined to dualism, which are valuable references when studying Chang Wen-huan's literary life.
