The dissertation about the book-”A Japanese woman married a Taiwanese man”-is on the parallel between ”love” and ”blood.” While the ultimate goal of the book is to pursue the idea that all men are created equal, there's a great conflict between ”love” and ”blood.” Here, ”love” originated from the Christianity; meanwhile, ”blood” related with the discourse of the nature of being Japanese. About the reason why it is chosen as the subject can be discussed in two parts-the inner struggle of Taiwanese intellectual and the dilemma resulted from the conflict between love and blood shown on the main characters. In addition, not only the issue about marriages of Taiwanese local residents and other different origins but also their descendants' self-identity confusion sensitively touched the topic of self-recognition at that time. This kind of confusion occurred to local Taiwaneses and descendants from a Taiwanese and Japanese family. It was the time when self-recognition's still a focus of attention. If we look back on the dilemma at the Japanese occupation time, it might help us realize what caused modern Taiwanese's multiple self-identities nowadays.
