筆者試著以張自烈在世的時間為基準點，透過張自烈及其友人的文章、書信等相關的文獻記載，來說明張自烈開始編撰《字彙辯》的時間在崇禎九年，而第一次梓印的時間在順治八年。在第一次刊印時，友人已然提到將《字彙辯》更名為《正字通》之議，但張自烈未採用仍以「字彙辯」稱此字書。廖文英以「正字通」為名刊印，可能是從張自烈處得知當初有易名之事，同時也對此書有所修訂。最後，則論述廖文英之子所說，張自烈與廖文英之間易稿《正字通》之事，未必可盡信。
According to the during Zhang zi-lie alive as a reference, I show that Zhang zi-lie was starting to write and edit ”Zi hui bian” in 1636 and was published in 1651 by using the relational literature record which is Zhang zi-lie and his friends' articles and letters. In first time to publish, Zhang's friend had suggested that to change the name of book from ”Zi hui bian” to ”Zheng zi tong”, but Zhang did not accept it. Liao wen-ying have published this book using ”Zheng zi tong” be the name of book, as hearting the news of the book's name changed from Zhang zi-lie, and have corrected. Finally, elaborating the saying of Laio's son, it might not be believed necessarily that Zhang zi-lie sale ”Zheng zi tong” to Laio wen-ying.
