摘要: The Taiwan cyclone is one of the prominent factors affecting winter-season weather over Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to analyze the synoptic flow patterns which Taiwan cyclones occur. An attempt is made to compare the amount of rainfall, contributed by Taiwan cyclones in winter, between northeast and southwest regions of Taiwan.
In addition, the characteristics of the surface and 500mb isothermal and flow patterns of the different air masses, i.e., the polar continental air mass, the sea modified polar continental air mass, and the land modified polar continental air mass, during the formation and development of Taiwan cyclones are analyzed. The relationship between the location and intensity of the 500mb upper westerly trough and the formation and development of Taiwan cyclones are also discussed.
The Taiwan cyclones can be classified into foot types, i.e., A, B, C, and 0, based on the tracks of winter polar continental air-masses, and the positions of high and low pressure centers in East Asia, cove ring the period of December through April of each year of 1958 to 1970.
A brief discussion of the characteristics of each of the four types of Taiwan cyclones is made. An effort is devoted to analyze the synoptic flow patterns and their variations in relation to the formation, development and movement of Taiwan cyclones. Finally, the author proposed three principles for the forecasting of Taiwan cyclones based upon the three proposed principal are presented.
The technique developed in this paper is employed to forecast the formation of Taiwan cyclones by the Forecasting Center of the Central Weather Bureau of the Republic of China. It is found that the result was comparable.
