The Taipei Haiku Association founded by a present chairman Mr. Ko Reishi in 1975 is the only haiku association in Taiwan, which has played an active part for 44 years until now. The association's published works have been included in a number of noted haiku anthologies such as the "Taipei Haiku Anthology (39)" published in 2012, in which twenty haiku pieces per member are included. The association is currently preparing for the publication of upcoming anthologies in the series of 40, 41 and 42 simultaneously. On the other hand, the association has been facing a major problem that their members are growing older. The future challenge of the association is thus to increase members, especially younger ones. As a part of the efforts, the Japanese haiku symposium targeting Japanese major college students has been held nationwide since 2010 by the Department of Applied Japanese in Shou University. In order for the symposium to flourish, further efforts and cooperation among the professors of the Japanese language departments are essential. It is hoped that haiku population will thrive and the members of Taipei Haiku Association will become more successful with a support of "Taiwan Gakusei Haiku Ikuseikai" (a haiku organization to support Taiwanese students who engage in haiku) in the future.
