Ferromagnetic yttrium iron garnet (Y3FesOI2, YIG) is widely used in magneto-optical and memory devices. Magnetic anisotropy of YIG is an important research issue, especially in the form of YIG thin films. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) provides an effective way of analyzing the anisotropy properties of magnetic thin films and multilayers. This paper describes the detailed procedure of measuring YIG thin films by the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) technique, The paper contains an introduction to the FMR system, sample preparation and installation procedures, how to tune the FMR signal, how to rotate sample to obtain the angular evolution between the sample surface and the applied field, and a brief summary of the experimental results.
