    Abstract: We employ 3-D RKBPM to design 1 × 3 MMI optical power splitters made of rectangular waveguides with different refractive index distributions. By appropriately selecting structural parameters, the input power can be uniformly distributed to the three output guides. The simulation results show that the length of the multimode waveguide region, rather than the gap between the output ports, is more sensitive to the refractive indexes of the core regions. And these two structural parameters decrease as the refractive index of the core region increases.
