Having the smallest body size among all bears, the Malayan Sun Bears are good in climbing trees and their wild herds mainly populate in the tropics where the environment richness is high. This study was based on the survey in the Wildlife Shelters of National Pingtung University of Technology and Taipei City Mucha Zoo, that 10 sun bears were divided into 3 groups of different cage environment. The researcher found that the occurrence of stereotyped behavior on all 120 check points, the average incidence rate is 49.5%, 47.3% and 66%, of which two samples showed some stereotypic behavior of self-abuse and deprivation. The observations found that the occurrence of stereotypic behaviors among sun bears can be reduced, if space is extended upward, and the climbing frame and trees were set up by way of increasing the environment richness and mimicking the life style of the Sun Bear's native environment.
