Scholars believe that the existence of online media and social media could have a significant impact on broadening political participation. The abundance of political information available online also may boost political interest, enhance voters’ political knowledge and increase political participation.This study is based on a survey of 206 Indonesian students in Taiwan who were answered the questionnaire toward 2014 national election about online news media use, levels of political participation and political efficacy. The goal is to document the relationship of online news media toward political participation and political efficacy. As predicted, the findings indicated that online news media usage and social media usage was positively associated with higher levels of political participation and also political efficacy among Indonesian students in Taiwan.This study also found that gender is a critical variable in influencing students’ online political participation. This report demonstrates that today female commonly cast ballots at equal in terms of political participation.
