Most of the local athletes who participated in the weight-classified competitions did not administer the long-term body-weight management. Usually the inappropriate weight loss methods were applied among athletes while the contest was approaching. This investigation was conducted to study the effect of a nutrition education intervention on the knowledge, belief, behavior, and body component on 19 elite collegiate Judo players (12 males and 7 females). The participants took the uncompelled 1-hr education intervention once a week for 6 weeks. The same questionnaire was applied before and 6 weeks after the intervention to evaluate the change of the knowledge, belief, and behavior in body weight management of the participants. Body composition analysis was also accomplished before, 1 week after, and 6 weeks after the intervention. A significant increase of positive belief and behavior were found (paired-t test, p<0.05) but not the knowledge. Reductions of body fat percentage were found in all body weight loss participants (n=14). However, mean lean tissue reduction of 3 participants who did not attend the intervention was significantly higher than the others who accomplished the intervention course. Thus, this body weight control intervention course not only improves the body management belief and behavior of participants but also avoids the lean tissue loss during their body weight loss period.
