The study aims to investigate the correlations between family relationships and attitudes toward the elderly among college students in a public technology university in Taipei. The study used survey method to gather data and used stratified sampling procedures to select study participants. The survey instruments consists of three parts, including personal background (18 items), Family Relationships Questionnaire (17 items), and Attitudes toward the Elderly Scale (15 items). The study was conducted during February and March in 2013, and 450 questionnaires were distributed and 438 were returned. Among the returned questionnaires, 400 were valid. The response rate is 88.88%. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé post-hoc comparison, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. The results are as followed:
    1. Participants’ family relationships and interactions are most likely to be positive, especially on emotion expression. Their attitudes toward the elderly are most likely to be positive, especially on emotion intention.
    2. Differences between background information and family relationships among participants include:
    i. Emotion expression are frequently used in nuclear family than in single-parent family.
ii. The closer interactions participants have with coresided elderly, the more positive their family relationships are.
iii. Participants’ family relationships are more likely to be positive when they have interactions with the elderly.
iv. Participants’ family relationships are more likely to be positive when they have close interactions with the non-coresided elderly.
    3. Differences between background information and attitudes toward the elderly among participants include:
    i. The younger the participants, the more positive attitudes they have on cognition intention.
ii. Participants in the College of Design are more likely to have higher positive attitudes on cognition intention than those in the College of Management.
iii. Participants who are the eldest child are more likely to have positive attitudes than those who are the single child in the family.
iv. Participants’ attitudes toward the elderly are more positive when they have close interactions with coresided elderly.
    4. Correlations are found between participants’ family relationships and attitudes toward the elderly, and family relationships are found to be the predictor of attitudes toward the elderly.
Based on the findings, the researcher suggest that:
    1. Parents are encouraged to be aware of family relationships and positive interactions.
    2. Schools are encouraged to offer courses related to family relationships and gerontology to improve positive attitudes toward the elderly.
    3. The government agency is encouraged to provide sufficient space and areas for intergenerational interaction.
