The main purpose of this research is to understand the experience and influence of a psychological displacement paradigm in diary-writing (PDPD) on novice group counselors and how the influences affect these novice group counselors. The current study will recruit 30 master students who are taking master-level group counseling courses and first time leading a group. The 30 participant will be from 2-3 counseling programs. This study applies the qualitative method and data will be collected from two sources: texts of the writing-diaries of these participants and the interview data after they finish the course. The participants will write diaries after each session using first-person pronoun first, and then narrate the same event using second-person pronoun, and finally with a third-person’s perspective; and individual interviews will be conducted with participants after 6 diary-writings. Interview outlines as the guidelines will be used for conducting interview and information through the semi-structural in-depth interview will be collected. A total of 160-180 writing diaries and 30-45 hours of transcripts will be collected and analyzed by applying ground theory methodology. The procedures of data analysis include open coding, axial coding, and selective coding from grounded theory of qualitative research. Three levels of the results are expected to be found including : 1) The experiences of using psychological displacement paradigm in diary-writing (PDPD) on novice group counselor, 2) The influences of using psychological displacement paradigm in diary-writing (PDPD) on novice group counselor, and 3) How the influences happen using psychological displacement paradigm in diary-writing (PDPD) on novice group counselor. Results about the experience and influence of psychological displacement on novice group counselor will be discussed and suggestions about instruction, training, practice and supervision of group counselor will be addressed.
