Nanguau music is one specific kind of music that is preserved along the coast of Quanzho and Xiamen in China. After Ming Dynasty, it was introduced by the immigration rush to Taiwan, playing an integral part in the history of Taiwanese music. However, with the advent of western music and transforming of society, the importance of Nanguau music in Taiwan is on the wane. Hence, this dissertation will be emphasizing on integrating the characteristics of Nanguau music into the compositions. The dissertation can be divided into four chapters. The first chapter is to explain the motivation of the author, the goal, scope and methodology of the research. The second chapter is an introduction of the general gist of Nanguau music, illustrating different types of musical instruments and melodies by Nanguau. The third chapter is to analyze four compositions of Nanguau music and examine how the author integrated the characteristics of Nanguau music into the compositions. The fourth chapter is the conclusion.
