This study intends to investigate the impact of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) with 1st and 2nd grade elementary students exhibiting internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Researches have shown the effect of play therapy with children. However, studies emphasize on specific approach to work with children’s internalizing and externalizing behavior problems are still limited. Therefore, this study contributes to this research area by addressing these limitations. There will be 8 children exhibiting borderline/clinical range of internalizing behaviors (4 participants) or externalizing behaviors (4 participants), in a total of 8 children, in this study. Children will be randomly assigned to experimental group (play therapy) or control group (reading mentoring). Children in experimental and control groups will receive play therapy and reading mentoring once per week for 10 weeks, respectively. This study will use a single-case design. Observational data using the Direct Observation Form will be gathered throughout the course of the baseline, intervention, and post-intervention phases in order to examine the process of behavior change. Additionally, children’s teachers will fill out the Teacher Report Form, whereas children’s parents will complete the Child Behavior Checklist and Parenting Stress Index. The analysis in this study will include visual analysis and the calculation of the percentage of non-overlapping data. Graph of all data points for each of the three phases will be provided. Further, the researcher will examine the level, trend, and magnitude of the data within each phase. To examine the effect of play therapy, the calculation of the percentage of non-overlapping data will be utilize.
