The eyes are the most important facial landmarks on human face. Eyes localization in face recognition and iris recognition is a very important preprocessing. It’s easy to find the location of eyes if we can quickly and easily extract the characteristics of eyes. This paper presents a method, based on elliptical Gabor filters (EGFs), to locate the positions of eyes. According to the size and the frequency of the eye, we can create an EGF to locate the eye. The EGF can be exploited to segment the eye regions. And the circular Gabor filter (CGF) can be used to locate the pupil. Therefore, the combination of EGF and CGF can find the positions of eyes more precisely. Compared with other approaches, the proposed approach has higher recognition rates.
