The railroad station is an important transportation hub for the development of Taiwan's cities and urban space. It also represents part of the urban environmental development network. With the development of the underground railway project in urban areas, the release of land in the neighborhood of railroad station will affect the regional land development and its application. The surrounding space of the station consequently forms up the important spatial elements in the urban center. The study design intended to proceed in the perspective of Green Infrastructure Network and Landscape Urbanism, re-exploring the characteristics of the urban center of the Tainan railroad station, and thinking about the role playing of urban space of underground station.
The project uses the specific area of Tainan Railroad Station as a case study. Tainan city is to be one of significant cities, following after Taipei City and Kaohsiung City, currently promoting the underground railway in the urban areas. Tainan has become the third city in promoting the project of the underground railway. The railway station area serves not only as the core area in Tainan City, but also as the liking system to the peripheral areas. Furthermore, it serves as outreach portal to Tainan. This study therefore aims to design the peripheral space of Tainan underground railway, sorting out the development of urban green base network and creating the urban portal image. Furthermore, the underground gallery of Tainan railroad station may have a regenerative design.
Through the relevant literature and actual case study of environmental survey and real participation of the project of the "district urban design and international logo of the 2012 Tainan railroad station", the study would sketch out a design of the peripheral space of a railroad station in terms of shaping the portal image. Through urban design and update mechanism, we regenerate the Tainan railroad station in a new position of role playing and functions of specific area in urban development. In addition, we effectively link the features of the portal space and ecological resources, giving their ecological landscape and spatial structure. It gradually makes full implementation of an urban green base network to be our vision and goal.
