This paper applies time series to investigate the casual relationship between GDP, energy consumption and foreign direct investment for Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand for the period from 1981 to 2010.Unit Root Test、Cointegration Test and Granger Causality Test are conducted in this study. The evidences indicate that, unidirectional Granger causality running from GDP to energy consumption for Indonesia, unidirectional Granger causality running from foreign direct investment to GDP for Malaysia, bidirectional Granger causality running from GDP to foreign direct investment for Philippines, for Singapore there are unidirectional Granger causality running from GDP to energy consumption, unidirectional Granger causality runs from foreign direct investment to GDP, and bidirectional Granger causality running from foreign direct investment to GDP. In addition, there are bidirectional Granger causality running from GDP to energy consumption, moreover find unidirectional Granger causality running from foreign direct investment to energy consumption for Thailand. Finally, the results show government should improve energy efficiency, control the type of foreign direct enterprises, not only environmental protection but also raise GDP. |
