Abstract:
With such family background as a helper in the private day-care cen-ter, the researcher finds his former experiences and love of taking care of children the motivation of this research. Through conducting in-depth interview, recording transcripts, and doing literature review, the researcher explores various problems that families with autistic members may face, including the acceptability of other family mem-bers as well as the actual living conditions of autistic members. The foundation’s assistance in these families and the impacts made by it would also be thoroughly discussed.
During the research process, the researcher comes out with three main factors that would affect living conditions of families with au-tistic members:
(1) Different types of autism and various functioning levels
(2) Perspectives from internal and external family members
(3) Parents’ attitudes and perspectives when they face with autism
Research Conclusion:
A foundation could make several impacts on families with autistic members, including whether autistic children may receive early as-sessment and intervention. Other wide range of services, from par-ents’ access to parenting education to autistic children’s whole-life career planning covering adult day-care, are taken into account as well. During the procedure of participating in the foundation, parents may gain more substantial help in government grants and preferential measures. Furthermore, they are able to exchange views with other parents through partaking in supportive programs.
Research Suggestions:
Statistics from Ministry of the Interior show that autism has leapt to the top rate of increase in population who need to receive the Disabil-ity Handbook. To confront with the tendency of ever increasing numbers of autistic people, government agencies, schools, medical institutions, social welfare units, and parents should really make joint efforts to face with these concerns.
