    Abstract: 臺灣地區歷經賀伯颱風、林肯大郡事件乃至於九二一集集大地震等幾次重大的自然災害,人民生命與財產俱蒙受嚴重的損失,也體認到居住環境的安全性。本研究針對新竹縣尖石鄉地區居住環境的潛在地質災害進行研究,根據衛星影像與航照判釋、現地踏勘、崩塌地與土石流潛在危險地點分析以及各種潛在危險災害發生率與影響性評估結果,新竹縣尖石鄉地區曾經發生的地質災害類型依發生頻率次序為邊坡崩塌(坍方、落石)、洪氾、土石流、沖蝕及沉陷。尖石鄉部份地區近年來雖未曾發生重大災害,但由地形特徵、組成岩層性質與地質構造狀態研判,具有潛在危險性,在區域開發上宜予以限制或事前加以整治防範。
    In the past ten years, there have always been many natural earth processes that are hazardous to people of Taiwan. Natural disasters such as typhoon, earthquakes, river flooding hazards, landslides, debris flow hazards and subsidences caused loss of life or property damage. These disasters made people realize that the natural processes that produce natural disasters must be recognized. They must be avoided where possible, and their threat to human life and property must be minimized.
    In fact, natural hazards are nothing more than natural processes. They become hazards only when people live or work in areas where these processes occur naturally. The purpose of this study is hoped to provide some methods to identify potentially hazardous processes around the villages in the Chienshih area. It may also provide some information available to planners and decision makers so that they can formulate various alternatives to avoid or minimize the threat to human life or property.
