    Authors:
    Contributors:
    Date: 2000-05-01
    Issue Date: 2012-05-09 10:04:25 (UTC+8)

This article introduces some of the many benefits associated with the use of" authentic" video materials in the language classroom, providing pragmatic recommendations on how instructors can make use of the Internet to enhance the value of these cinematic teaching resources. Also included in this writing is an examination of classroom activities that can enhance the academic value of these materials, including: 1) conflict identification and discussion, 2) plot-summation, 3) character analysis, and 4) slang identification. The combined use of these four classroom strategies, coupled with Internet activities outside of the classroom, will assist the language student in becoming more familiar with the target language and relevant cultural information, while also ensuring an enjoyable experience in language acquisition.
