    Title: Games as Teaching Activities in Large Second Language Classes
    Authors: 柯迪

    Abstract: 遊戲通常被視為一種休閒、娛樂的活動。然而,語言遊戲已成為一種被接受且是許多學校所需要的一種教學技巧。細讀最新的會話課本,你會發現其中有許多遊戲,只是大部分英語教學的書本很少討論到使用遊戲當做一種教學的技巧。有的語言遊戲能成功的被運用在大班級,但有的語言遊戲則不行。遊戲雖然是有趣的,但須作審慎的準備,才能在課堂上掌握得當。在搜集相關資料時,本文作者未發現大班級使用遊戲的資料。因此,本文涵蓋以下主題:
    1.語言教學中使用遊戲的定義及目的;
    2.大班級使用遊戲時遇到的問題;
    3.如何逐步的在教室裡成功的運用遊戲的實例。
    本文的結論是:大班級的英語教學中,語言遊戲是一種很重要的教學活動,甚或可被視為教學活動的重心。

    Games are usually thought of as some type of structured activity done for amusement and relaxation. However, language games have become an accepted, and in some schools a required, language teaching technique. If you peruse any modern English language conversation textbook you will find numerous games. However, most pedagogical works on TESL processes provide very little discussion on using games as teaching activities. Some language games can be used very successfully in large classes, while others fail miserably. While games are fun, they require serious and thoughtful preparation, and thorough set-up, in order to succeed. However, in compiling a potential working bibliography for this paper, I found no texts that addressed the use of games in large-sized classes. Therefore, this research paper will cover the following topics: (a) definitions and purposes of using games in language teaching; (b) problems encountered in using games in large classes; and (c) a step-by-step example of how to set up and conduct a successful classroom word game. The thesis statement for this paper is: Language games can be used as core activities in teaching large foreign language classes.
