Precision agriculture provides a better way for solving the problem of expensive land and human costs after Taiwan joining WTO. Camellia plants are commonly utilized for beverage, horticulture and oil, thus are economically valued. Camellia seed oil is used as food for a long history, and is named as 'oriental olive oil' for its excellent oil quality. Although there is abundant Camellia resource in Taiwan, studies for their oil usages are still absent. The aim of this study is to figure out the oil content and production of all the native Camellia species. This study is planned to be executed in two years. For the first year, seed oils of all the native Camellia species will be analyzed. Then three species with better oil quality will be selected for the advanced study. For the second year, seed oils of separate populations of the three selected species will be analyzed. Cultivars with excellent oil quality will be chosen. Finally, a germplasm bank of these excellent cultivars will be built up to meet the needs for future promotion.
