In this study, cobalt tetramethoxyphenyporphyrin (CoTMPP) was used to modify the platinum on carbon (CoTMPP/Pt/C) as catalyst. SEM, XRD, TEM, and electrochemical measurements were conducted to study the dispersion, particle size, physical characterization, and electrochemical behavior. For the usage of CoTMPP/Pt/C, SEM image showed that the particle size is below 5 nm after pyrolysis of porphyrin. The electrochemical behavior of CoTMPP/Pt/C for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is similar to that of Pt/C in 1 M H2SO4. In methanol tolerance experiments, CoTMPP/Pt/C is insensitive to the methanol oxidation reaction. 20wt%CoTMPP/Pt/C has the best performance of the ORR with methanol among different ratios of CoTMPP to Pt/C.
