    Abstract: 漢武帝大舉撻伐匈奴是中國歷史上相當驚心動魄的一幕。對於此一戰爭之勝負，胡兵胡將所扮演的角色，存在著種種矛盾的說法。本文第一部份提出傳統各種說法之可疑。第二部份分析衛、霍麾下立功將領之種屬及胡兵胡將在戰爭中所占之份量。第三部份敘述趙信降胡，其所提出之戰略造成整個戰局關鍵性之逆轉。第四部份分析武帝元鼎五年以後何以每戰必敗？胡兵胡將之戰志何以普遍發生動搖？第五部份總結匈奴之降實另有原因，武帝「席中國廣大」傾其全力以攻匈奴之結果是「建功不深」，其根本原因實繫於胡兵胡將之得失。
