    Abstract: 吳廷翰為明朝的理學家,唯未為明儒學案所著錄,在日本卻頗見流傳。廷翰是外於宋明理學朱子「性即理」,與陸王「心即理」二大系統,而以氣為宇宙本體萬物之所出的另一種思想。第一,氣為天道本體、形上道、理、太極、性等皆因由氣所出,故皆是氣之隨處異名;習見屬形下之陰陽、心等亦由氣來,而亦是氣。形下萬物亦為氣凝而成。第二,道非指萬物之本體,而是以萬物由氣化之條理而有為道。第三,理非指孤懸形物外之本體,只是萬物得氣化之條理而為萬物者。第四,太極指氣為最高本體,太極生兩儀生四象八卦之方式,為氣化流行之玉理,反對五行相生說。第五,陰陽非形下氣質,是太極陰陽相感,動靜相生之二種特性,以之強化兩儀四象說。第六,性是氣凝有條理者,而氣凝有體質之形亦是性,以見人性之大。但性得仁義有多寡不同,故性分四品。第七,心是性之生生靈覺妙用,但涉及形氣未必全善。合言之,即立於道、理、太極、陰陽、性、心皆由氣出之立場,摒除彼此位階之不同,使彼此內涵相即相入而為一之氣本論。
