In the last decade, information technology has been in development rapidly. Therefore, the new technology has made a revolutionary improvement on television technology and communication. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission announced the termination of analog television service on June 12, 2009. This act declared the digital era has arrived.
This research reviewed related literatures to know current development in high definition television services in Taiwan and other highly developed countries. The instrument was developed based on results of literature review.
A total of 379 surveys were collected, and 93.4% indicated that compared with other developed countries, there are not enough high definition channels in Taiwan. Also, 62.01% of participants believed that cable service providers should be responsible for promoting high definition programs. In addition, 42.42% of participants indicated that the government should support the high definition television media industry.
Also, industrial professionals were invited to in-depth interview sessions to understand the current issues on HDTV development in Taiwan. They all indicated that the government should take the responsibility to support the manufacture and media industries. Also, the government should allocate budget to support high definition programs production.
