The pwer of drama is to invoke the feeling of saddness, sympathy and pity from the audiences. The Ganster film is the right kind of the film genre.

The Script, entitled “ The Arms of Sorrow”, is about a story of an experien-ced police officer who is trying to solve a tough case which involves his own daughter. It is a psycho thriller in the form of Ganster film with a mixture of mystery and suspense film. The script tries to make a satire on the absurd situa-tion of the social condition in Taiwan society in terms of the mis-conmunition between two generations, disconnected relationship of families and the lagged behind technology of the police intellect in solving crime cases.

The analysis of the script is based on the theory derived from the book written by Howard Suber, entitled “The Power of Film”. Firstly, this essay aims to sort out the rule that attrack audiences’ attention and that generate fine box office results.
Secondly, this essay also tries to analyze the figures of the script, its character-zation, dramatic actions and the strategy of the narrative in presenting the theme of the script.

Finally, on behalf of the aboved-mentioned concepts, this script and the analysis of the script should add up to constructing a well-thought-out, belivable though wierd and possibly box office generating story instead of just a readable version only.
