摘要: | 色彩具有傳遞訊息和呈現意象的功能,不同的色彩搭配便會呈現不同樣貌的風格,在考慮設計配色的時候,我們常常因為配色而感到苦惱不已,為了解決此問題,因此就有了色彩體系的產生。色彩的研究領域甚為寬廣,色彩的系統和體系是色彩研究的基準,在設計領域上,色票是設計的基礎也是一種溝通標準,它可以讓使用者在混亂的顏色中,避免產生視覺誤差,依據其所標示的色相,彩度和明度,使用者可以精確的決定適合的顏色,並在大量的色票快速找到目標。
在電腦繪圖上我們大多運用CMYK、RGB、HSV或HSB的色彩檢色器或是實體色票表來選取顏色,雖然傳統的色票和檢色器在色彩的表達上較具直觀性並容易取得,但是大多都採平面來表達色彩特性,只能觀察平面變化,無法完整透視3D的色立體也無法直覺的選取顏色。
CIELAB色彩空間,被設計來演繹人類視覺色彩特性,CIELAB色彩空間具有視覺上的均勻性,這種表示方法較符合人類的視覺特性,而其它的色彩空間則較不具有這種特性。色彩是3D空間屬性但市面上所見的色彩選擇工具一直都是以2D呈現,因此本研究建構以LAB色彩空間為基礎的3D色票模型,並比較與傳統平面色彩選擇工具進行探討並以易用性為中心以驗證其效能。希望本研究能在色彩運用上,提供新型態之色彩選擇工具。
研究結果顯示3D色票的易用性(效能、滿意度)高於一般平面色彩檢色器,使用者認為3D色票模型有助於了解色彩空間也會提升使用者對色彩的興趣。
In graphic design, color chips serve both as a design tool and reference material to communicate the color selection between various professions. They can help users to present the desire color in a physical sense under given lighting condition. In graphic arts world, it is very common to use the combinations of C, M, Y and K process inks to generate the possible range of colors on ink and paper. This type of color chips is usually arranged in such a order that changing the color combination in a two- dimensional way on a sheet of paper, regardless it is in colorant order (device dependent color) or in visual color order (device independent color). For users to pick color in such system, there are two limitations: the color order sequence is pre-determined and the color variation is mostly in the concept of two-dimensions unless transparent sheets are used.
Human visual color attributes as we all used to are three-dimensional. For graphic designer, the degree of freedom in using lightness, chroma and hue variations simultaneously is an important merit during the color selection process. Therefore, a three-dimensional representation of color sequence for graphic designer to pick color in an interactive way can be a useful tool. With such consideration in mind, this research is focused to study whether usability is improved for color picker in three-dimensional form.
A three-dimensional interactive color model is built to provide the test platform for the observers to experience the color picking process in computer. Each color is represented by a 3D chip on a computer screen. There are spaces between color chips so that the space can be seen through and perspective can be established in this space. With the aid of keyboard and mouse operations, a user can observe this model from different angles and positions in the color space. The user can even rotate the space from outside or immerse in it to navigate around.
This study establishes a model of 3D color chips based on CIELAB uniform color space. CIE L*, a* and b* coordinates are used for this 3D space. An Eizo LCD monitor calibrated as Adobe RGB is used to display the color model. The boundary of the color space is limited to the feasible encoding of R, G and B (no greater than 255 or smaller than 0) by converting the logical CIELAB space to the Adobe RGB space. In addition to establishing an interactive model of 3D color chips, this study also introduces the mode of usability to investigate the improvement from the common planar color picker to interactive model of 3D color picker. By doing this, the study aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency in using 3D color chips and to enhance users’ satisfaction upon 3D color chips.
The research results indicate that usability (effectiveness and satisfaction) of 3D color picker is higher than common planar color picker. Moreover, users think the model of 3D color chips help them understand color space and become more interested in colors. |
