    Abstract: 校長是學校的領導,其品質兼含人格、學力、經歷、體能、領導力等個人資格,以及在職務上所表現的效能和業績。學校教育品質固與校長本身條件有關,但也受到世界潮流、教育政策、部定課程、主管授權、學校型態、師資素質、家長配合、社區支持和學生能力等外在因素的影響。在教育變革的時代,期望校長除具個人基本條件外,兼具創新力、應變力、協調力等特定條件,掌握教育思潮、文化特性、教育政策、學校類型、授權程度、師生條件,調整領導方式,實施「教育本位行政」,發揮學校領導的效能和品質。
    School principals are responsible for the quality of their schools. The effectiveness of a school leadership including principal's qualification of personality, knowledge, experiences as well as abilities of innovation, flexibilities and coordination, in specific and general. In a changing education, the tasks of managing schools are becoming much more complex and professionalized. School principals need to be able to take a wide variety of roles: Instructional leader, transformational leader, integrative leader, co-operative leader as well as knowledge manager and the learning organization developer. For promoting school quality and accountability, a principal has to facilitate distributive leadership, collective teacher efficacy, and collaborative climate, to develop a strong focus on the educational objectives, and to focus explicitly on learning and change.
