Qian Zhao-Xi, an influential Chinese composer, has lots of works in rich variety, including pieces for Chinese orchestra, for Chinese instruments and for national symphonic chorus. Among them, only “The Pirouetting Danseuse”, “The Dragon’s Resonance”, “Plum Blossom Prelude” and “Bitterly Hate” are specifically composed for the Bamboo flute, and that encourages the author to do further research on the four.
The study mainly consists of three parts. The first section is to collect and analyze data about Qian, including biography, musical background and composing style, to probe into his composing thought. In the second part, it is focus on the musical analyses, such as structures, elements and composing motives. Then, based on the former research, the author expresses and concludes ideas of interpretation in the last part. The study is expected to help get closer to Qian Zhao-Xi’s composing thought when doing performance and become a useful reference for the future performers.
